Robert Miller, ONABEN Board Member, announced the publication of his book, “Native America, Discovered and Conquered: Thomas Jefferson, Lewis & Clark, and Manifest Destiny,” an exploration into the Doctrine of Discovery and its affect on westward expansion in the US and US policy towards Native Americans, published by Greenwood Publishing Group.
Tom Hampson, ONABEN Executive Director, acknowledges...
...“Bob’s book increases our understanding of the ramifications of US policy on Native American culture and traditional ways of life, which included sophisticated barter and trade. Native Americans were indeed the first great entrepreneurs. We are excited for Bob and his achievement.”
In addition to serving on the ONABEN Board of Directors since 1998, Miller is an Associate Professor at Lewis and Clark Law School in Portland, OR and Chief Justice, Court of Appeals, Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon. He wrote the book while on sabbatical from Lewis and Clark this past year, but continued to actively sit in ONABEN Board meetings. Miller is a citizen of the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma and brings significant Indian law and small business management experience to the Board and organization. We are fortunate to have members on our Board of Directors, like Bob, who contribute professional expertise and intellectual inquiry to our organization and community, said Hampson.
